.: Johnny "Booger" Young Gravesite
On June 24th, 2006, SKPS investigated the gravesite of a legendary mountain mystic, Johnny "Booger" Young. John C. Young (July 6, 1858 - March 3, 1941) was well-known on Lotts Creek in eastern Perry County. He was saddled with the nickname Johnny "Booger", thanks to numerous reports of his extraordinary powers. We have collected several eyewitness reports that Young did indeed appear to have gifts of some kind. He was allegedly the cause of strange noises in the home of someone with whom he had a disagreement. Another story tells of a farmer who refused to sell a horse to Young. Young warned him that he would be sorry, and the next morning the animal was found dead, without any sign of illness or foul play. It was also said that Young could make fire "dance" out of the fireplace and all around the room.
Many stories have circulated over the years about strange happenings at the gravesite - eerie lights, objects moving around by themselves, bloodcurdling howls and even fire dancing across the grave. But I'm afraid we were unable to obtain any evidence of anything paranormal during our investigation. Video, still photos and audio recorded at the site turned up nothing out of the ordinary. So does this finally put to rest the legend of Johnny Booger? Not at all - it simply means were unable to substantiate any claims during our investigation on that particular day.
